About the Founder
Meet VDK: Your Animation Mentor
I recognize the potential in each one of my students. With my approach, I’ve seen my students’ self-esteem and skill-set consistently rise. I love what I do and it makes me happy to be able to share my passion with others. Since starting as a private instructor in 2009, my approach to teaching animation has resulted in helping students hone their animating skills and get them ready for the real world of animating at a professional level.
The problem that most students have is there is a huge gap between what the animator envisions for his scene and using the technology to get there.. My job is to close that gap so that the craft and tech of animating becomes second nature and all you have left is to bring your vision to life.
BACKGROUND
With over 30 years of experience in the animation industry, I’ve had the privilege of working on some of the most iconic films that have shaped the animation landscape. My journey began in 1989 at Disney as an inbetweener on The Little Mermaid, and from there, I honed my craft at top studios such as Warner Brothers, DreamWorks, Sony Imageworks, and Blue Sky Studios.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to beloved films like The Iron Giant, where I was nominated for a Best Animator Annie Award, and I’ve been a part of both traditional 2D and cutting-edge CG projects. My transition to CG came early during Osmosis Jones at Warner Brothers, and my first full-featured CG project was Stuart Little 2. Since then, I’ve worked on fan-favorites like Shark Tale, Kung Fu Panda, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Puss in Boots. I’ve even ventured into the world of VFX with Disney’s 2019 Beauty and the Beast and the live-action Pinocchio.
Currently, I’m taking a break from studio work to pass on the knowledge I’ve gained over the years. I’m hard at work creating the ultimate animation course—a comprehensive program designed to take you from an absolute beginner to a confident, skilled professional ready to take on the world of animation.
I am also a 3D animation instructor for iAnimate.net,(https://ianimate.net/) I have been helping animators learn all about computer animation for over 14 years!
